چکیده

The mouthless crab Cardisoma crassum is an important socioeconomic fishery resource; thus, understanding its distribution pattern key for management. present study aimed to determine if crabs show segregation by size in contrasting habitat types. Three plots were sampled from February June 2022 collect data on biometric variables Ponuga, Veraguas, Panama Pacific. A total of 151 with average cephalothorax width 56.24 ± 8.56 mm captured; 97 male and 54 female. This proportion difference was significantly skewed towards males at 1.8:1. Subjects plot 1 larger heavier than those 2 3. Ovigerous females found only during (rainy season). minimum functionally mature 47.11 mm. By this measure, higher proportions all more abundant 1. Small segregated 3; the origin associated. first report crassum. findings highlight importance features lead way further studies factors influencing pattern.

The type of the land crab Cardisoma hirtipes Dana, 1851 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Gecarcinidae).

In describing a new species of land crab, Discoplax celeste, from Christmas Island, eastern Indian Ocean, Ng & Davie (2012: 95) selected a neotype for the related Discoplax hirtipes (Dana, 1851), originally described from Fiji as a species of Cardisoma Latreille, 1828. They commented that the type material was no longer extant and a neotype was necessary to stabilise the taxonomy of the species...

Larval Morphology and Salinity Tolerance of a Land Crab from West Africa, Cardisoma Armatum (brachyura: Grapsoidea: Gecarcinidae)

The complete larval development of a terrestrial crab from West Africa, Cardisoma armatum Herklots, 1851, was studied in laboratory rearing experiments carried out at various salinities ranging from 0.2& to 45&. Six zoeal stages and one megalopa are described and illustrated. Our experimental results showed that zoeal stages of C. armatum are fairly euryhaline, zoea I to IV tolerating a salinit...
